Who is the author?

Hi there, I’m Kalekye Kasina an award winning journalist, a wife and mother of three beautiful children on a mission to air health issues happening and affecting not only Kenyans but also people around  the world. I am not a health guru, lawyer or doctor but I am passionate about creating awareness on healthy lifestyle.

Education and Employement

I graduated in 2012 with an undergraduate Bachelor of Arts Journalism and Mass Communications (Development Communications) degree from the University of Nairobi. I am currently pursuing a masters course in International Relations at the same University. I have previously worked at Kenya Broadcasting Corporation as an all round reporter and later leaned more towards health stories as a health TV reporter and producer of a segment within the 9 PM Sunday news “Health Matters”.

I produced an award winning story THE INVISIBLE BRIDGE on men who have sex with men (MSMs) and the high HIV prevalence in their society. The story was best in my class upon graduating in the year 2011. I also won the Internews Story fest award for the best data story TV news feature category and most recently, I won the best TV feature story award in the Red Ribbon awards by the National AIDS Control Council (NACC) 2013, as well as being the overall winner for the same awards.

I have received funding and support for some of my stories from INTERNEWS Kenya, Mercy Corps Kenya, HELDSISTER FOUNDATION and KANINI 4 AFRICA FOUNDATION.
