Who is the author?
Hi there!
I am Kalekye Kasina Njuguna, an award winning journalist with experience working for the national broadcaster KBC. I have also collaborated with other mainstream media and NGOs for work projects. I am an Independent Journalist, Communication Specialist, Producer, Editor and Content Creator. I’m a wife and mother of three beautiful children on a mission to highlight health issues happening and affecting Kenyans and beyond. I am not a health practitioner or doctor, but I am passionate about creating awareness on healthy lifestyle.
Education and Employment
I graduated in 2012 with an undergraduate Bachelor of Arts Journalism and Mass Communications (Development Communications) degree from the University of Nairobi. I am currently pursuing a masters course in International Relations at the same University. I have previously worked at Kenya Women Workers Organization; first as an Administrative Assistant and consequently added another feather to the cap; the position of Communication Specialist. I have always been a story teller and it’s not by chance that I found myself in a career about sharing stories that impact lives positively. In Kenya Broadcasting Corporation I was a health news TV reporter and the producer of a segment within the 9 PM Sunday news that was called “Health Matters”.
What is the blog about?
The posts vary from general health, healthcare and service delivery, mental health and wellness, human rights, fitness, prescription medicine, nutrition, diseases, health technology and health policies, along with scattered personal posts here and there as well as guest posts from contributors. This blog is a resource for readers to improve their health.
I also have a YouTube channel https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC1XSOSpjkPtQWMa_MUAR6PQ affiliated to the blog.
Why should you read it?
For inspiration, because each post is relatable and so much more. The blog offers a forum for raising awareness and is a hub of information. There’s a lighthearted touch of humor when providing insights on many topics which helps citizens make better informed health decisions in a world where health facts and products are in abundance. This is a blog of reason helping you navigate. When one doesn’t understand a subject, it’s easy to make uninformed opinions and decisions. Kalekye’s Health Moments is here to help you understand and learn more.
